Southern Weddings Launch Party

Diane and I attended the Launch Party for Southern Weddings Magazine. The event was held at the Dogwood Restaurant in Atlanta. I have been so inspired by the magazine's daily blog. The official launch of the print edition is the culmination of two years of dedication by Publisher Lara Casey and her great team. The magazine is a joy to read, filled with of real life weddings and information you can use in planning the big day! These are some of my favorite pics of Lara, Laura, Rachel, Kirstin, Lindsey and Katie Beth--an amazing group of talented and dedicated young women.

Renee and Stuart were married in Auburn, Alabama The ceremony was held at Auburn United Methodist Church and the reception followed just down the street at the Greystone Mansion. The heavy rain made it necessary for the bridesmaids to wrap Renee in plastic as she left the hair salon! However, the rain was no match for Renee's warm smile.

This was our first wedding in Auburn and we loved it--such a charming little village.

Gagan & Shivram

Gagan and Shivram were married at the Atlanta Sikh Gurdwara and their reception followed at the Northwest Hilton. We started with the couple on Friday at Gagan's parent's home. It is Indian tradition for the groom and his family to travel to the bride's home to meet her family. Both families celebrated and exchanged gifts.

The next day I was able to capture the Mehndi ceremony. This is a tradition where the bride and the female members of her family have their hands and feet painted with henna.

Sunday...Wedding Day! Shivram arrived at the wedding site with his family and friends in a procession known as a Baraat. The ceremony that followed was breath-taking and colorful, steep in Indian tradition.

Beth and Jason were married in an outdoor ceremony on a farm which had special meaning for Beth's family. The bride arrived at the ceremony site in a horse-drawn carriage. The reception was held at the farmhouse. The couple chose a variety of cheese cakes as their wedding cake. They also had funnel cakes...Yummy!!

Erin's parents have been friends with Patrick's parents for years. The families were overjoyed when the couple began dating in college. It was touching to watch as Patrick and Erin became husband and wife--and the two families became one! Diane and I went to one of our favorite cities for Sophie and Case's wedding--Chattanooga. The rehearsal dinner was held at Rock City--I have seen the signs all my life, but this was my first visit!

Elle and Ram were married in a Hindu ceremony at the Solarium-Historic Scottish Rite in Decatur. Ram rode a horse to the ceremony site. He was accompanied by family and friends in this traditional procession known as the barat. There were many other beautiful traditions which took place under the wedding pavilion known as the Mandap. Zoe and Ben held their ceremony and reception at the Callanwolde Fine Arts Center in Atlanta. Callanwolde, with beautiful gardens outside and a dramatic staircase inside, is a stunning wedding venue. Although it was cool, the day was beautiful and Diane and I had lots of fun capturing the wedding party and family pictures out on the lawn. Zoe is a trained dancer and she danced her way into our hearts. Ben and Zoe are beginning their new life together in the Big Apple!

Sarah and Palmer selected historic Houston Mill in Atlanta as the site for their wedding and reception. The wedding was held outside and the azaleas in the gardens were in full bloom and beautiful. Nothing quite like Atlanta in the Spring. Both Bride and Groom seemed to be truly having fun on their special day. Sarah wore a hand-made bracelet with a locket containing a picture of her grandmother and her taken when Sarah was a little girl.

Katie and Dan were married at All Saints Catholic Church in Dunwoody and their reception followed at the Hilton Northeast in Norcross. Although it was a rainy day, it had no effect on the happiness and love that was all around. Storms knocked the power off at the reception site until just before the couple arrived. However, our assistant Felicia was able to get some great shots of the ballroom lit only by candlelight! Katie’s Matron of Honor was the Cupid who introduced the couple to one another. Great job because they make a wonderful husband & wife.

Kristen & Christian were married at the beautiful Georgian Terrace Hotel and their reception followed there in the Piedmont Ballroom. Christian is a captain in the Air Force and some of his fellow pilots were there as his groomsmen. There is no way to really describe how gorgeous the architecture is at the Georgian Terrace. The entire day was just beautiful! After the reception, we took a trip up to the rooftop to grab some shots.

Nets and then the Atlanta Hawks. Guess it is appropriate that she & Jason met at a basketball party during the NBA playoffs. At the end of their wedding ceremony, they shared in the custom of “jumping the broom” .

Photographers: Canon 300mm f4 lens

Diane and I have always been committed to having the best possible equipment for any situation. Last year, we purchased a Canon 300mm lens. We soon realized that this is too much lens for most weddings. As a result, it stayed home most weekends. But recently, we photographed a wedding at the historic St. Luke's Episcopal Church on Peachtree Street (see previous post). Of course, we were required to shoot the ceremony from the balcony only. As you can see from these photos, the 300mm saved the day. The fisheye image gives you an indication of the size of the sanctuary. The 300mm got us really close to the ceremony.

Sarah and Kyle chose to have their engagement session in their own neighborhood--Little 5 Points. What a great decision. The neighborhood gave us many exciting backgrounds and made the afternoon fun. Photography classes

In addition to my passion for photography, I also love to teach. Now, I get to do both! Starting in September, I will be teaching a basic photography course at The Art Studio at Chastain which is located at 5197 Roswell Rd., NE, Sandy Springs. Classes will be held from 6-8 p.m. each Wednesday, beginning September 6, 2006. The course will run 8 weeks and the cost is $180. In order to receive full benefit of the classes, a Single-Lens Reflex camera is needed.

Last Saturday, recent UGA graduates, Brittany and Michael exchanged vows at Bethel United Methodist Church and had a beautiful reception at Eagle's Landing Country Club in Stockbridge. The parents' toasts were very touching--very few dry eyes in the room.
